Ombre Brown Beni Mrit Rug
This Beni Mrit, woven in a workshop in the Galmous region of the Atlas Mountains, near Meknès—one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. Often referred to as “noble rugs,” Beni Mrit are known for their exceptionally fine, soft wool, which is hand-dyed and washed four to six times after weaving to achieve their signature plush feel and subtle sheen. The workshop was founded a decade ago by a collective of third-generation Berber weavers and now employs 12 full-time artisans. Each rug is a true team effort—prepared, dyed, woven, and finished entirely in-house. Four artisans handle the wool prep and dyeing, six weavers work the looms, and two specialists finish the rugs, washing them with black soap and argan to give them the softness and glow that define a true Mrit.
